In the Next Room

{dress: target (sale)//scarf: borrowed from ma//earrings: gift from julie}

This weekend was amazing! I got to combine almost all of my favorite things into one weekend! First off, Scott and I went to see the Impressionist exhibition at the Speed Art Museum. Then of course, we finished off the day with a spot of supper! He also surprised me with some early Valentine's Day presents.

First off, he got me the exploding Van Gogh/TARDIS Dr. Who poster. For a nerd like me, I was so excited because I was having trouble selecting a favorite Who poster. The Van Gogh episode was one of my favorites because I got to combine my love of art with my love of Dr. Who! So it was basically perfect and now adorned above my bedpost. ALSO! He got me a heart of the ocean necklace! I'm also a Titanic nerd and know almost every word to the movie and cry every time I watch it but also I laugh when Fabrizio yells, "BASTARDO!" but basically I've wanted this necklace since I was a little girl and now I can hold onto it forever because, "A woman's heart is a deep ocean of secrets!"

On top of all that wonderful nerdiness, he burned me the sixth season of Dr. Who and now I'm all caught up and going through withdrawals.

On Friday, Leslie and I went to go see In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play) at Actor's Theatre. The set and costumes were beautifully Victorian and overall I really enjoyed it--except Leslie and I agreed the ending was a bit rushed and made it seem that hysteria was only sexual repression. In reality, women did suffer from mental disorders that weren't simply cured by "fluid releases" from the womb.

Now that the weekend's all but passed, I'm going to endeavor to finish my homework/responsibilities and for heaven's sake work on that darn thesis. But in other news, I'm all set for Valentine's Day! Tune in to see what's inside come Tuesday...

A Missouri Girl at Heart

I wore this last night when I went with Dr. Henke to see Tom Sawyer at Actor's Theatre. I met up with her and her house sitter, Pascal, for dinner. She was a lovely girl and unfortunately had to scatter because she was going to model in a local fashion show. She had a great personality so I'm sure she rocked it.

Dr. Henke and I ended up lost on the way to the theatre and the numbers on the street just started getting larger and larger. Oh Lord, we're in the ghetto, I thought. Luckily we made it by the skin of our teeth, but we got separated for the first act. We were finally able to reunite and we moved up to the front row where the effects were fantastic. It was so exciting!

The actress who played Becky Thatcher reminded me so much of Amanda Seyfried. The characters were all just incredibly well-played. All of the boys were perfect for capturing the effervescent spirit of youth. Having read Tom Sawyer in eighth grade, I was happy to see it adapted to the stage (sans dialect). Also, it made me feel a little twinge inside because I guess I really am a Missouri girl at heart (this takes place in a city based off of Mark Twain's experiences in Hannibal, MO).

I can't wait for the holiday season to arrive at Actor's!

Puddles

So... it rained today. At first it was nothing and then right when I was getting to the parking lot after class, it down-poured. My jeans were soaked up to my knees and my shoes were squeaky with wetness. Blergh. At least I had my umbrella.

This is an old pic of the shoes I wore today. They're currently drying on an air vent.

So, before I register for classes I have to fill out a special 'independent study' form for my senior honors thesis. I also have to have my adviser sign and date it. Well, I finally see him today and he says, "You are...?" Oh man. I'm impossible to forget but I'm hard to remember... I let him know that I was his Bloomsbury Group/Virginia Woolf thesis. "I'll send you an email..."

Other than that, I'm just prepping for training at Home Depot on Friday (woot) and my orientation Saturday from 9-1:30. I really hope I like this job. I mean, anything is better than working outside at night.

Also, Dr. Henke (and possibly Leslie) and I are going to grab dinner tonight and go see Tom Sawyer at Actor's Theatre before she leaves again for Oregon. I'm feeling drowsy but I know once I get there, I'll be excited. Here's to rainy days!

Sense & Sensibility

Saturday, September 3rd, Leslie and I went to dinner at Bluegrass Brewing Co. and to see Sense & Sensibility at Actor's Theatre! We both got delish black bean burritos and dessert. I opted for a chocolate chip cookie icecream sandwich and Leslie got a raspberry chocolate souffle.

Unfortunately, this was the only picture I got all night. Once we get to talking, Leslie and I seem to forget about everything else--including photographic documentation of the evening. Sorry, folks. :(

When we walked into the theatre, seeing everyone dressed up in anticipation for the evening Leslie and I both just sighed. It was just like London--except of course, way smaller and no one had a lovely British accent. We had second row center seats and could see the stage so well. I loved the girl who played Marianne (seen above) and just loved the play overall. I'm a sucker for period drama, especially when it comes to luscious costume design and witty dialogue. Swoon.

When the stage lit up with stars in the end, I was overcome with a theatre nerd-gasm. There was a lady in the front row who kept chomping on food and drinking what seemed to be an endless cup of champagne. Leslie and I exchanged sidelong glances--the woman later stood up to cheer loudly for everyone. You really shouldn't pre-game before a formal event.
