Moonrise Kingdom

So, last Saturday Scott and I went to the Forecastle Festival on the waterfront of Downtown Louisville. Despite my germaphobia, we had a really good time. Well, except for that one time we had to use the porta-potty in the dark. *Shudders.*

Beforehand, we had lunch at the new vegetarian restaurant near campus. The veggie fried rice and spring rolls were delicious!

I'm kind of a clean-cut goody two-shoes (or I try to be) but there's a side of me that's full of bohemian splendor. There were so many different walks of life at Forecastle, coming together to celebrate the things we all have in common: the necessity to feel rhythm, to feel like we are a part of something larger. It was like a mini-Woodstock except there were exceptionally less naked people.

The last few days have been a whirlwind. It's amazing sometimes how love can pick up where it left off and somehow feel new and better. And you fit together like puzzle pieces. The heart is a curious organ but it always leads you home.

Scott and I went to McAlister's yesterday before we went to see Moonrise Kingdom. It was so good! I really loved Sam and Suzy. It was such a bizarre story and the setting felt like it took me somewhere my imagination could never lead me, which in my opinion is a sign of a really good novel or film. Makes me want to catch up on some of Wes Anderson's older films!

We also decided to start a little book club because of all the new movies coming out that look really good! I remember reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower in high school but I was somehow convinced that it was over-hyped. But seeing the movie trailer with Emma Watson makes me really curious because I kind of like her a LOT. She's the face of Burberry for crying out loud. Scott has wanted me to read The Hobbit forever because it's his favorite book and the movie is coming out. Seems like no better time than now!

Oh and the henna. If you can't find henna at Forecastle, then you just suck it up, go to Barnes & Noble, and buy yourself a kit. Boom.

Santigold is kind of like M.I.A. 2.0. She's funky, fresh, and funkyfresh. I can't help but want to dance with arms flailing freely. First Aid Kit is two Swedish sisters who sound like they live in the backwoods of South Carolina strumming on the strings. They are so mellow and contemplative. Jack White is so strange and Edgar Allan Poe-y and his melodies are just so hauntingly beautiful. I just wish I could jam with him one day.

And of course...

Mr. Phillip Phillips

You can't make talent like that... you're just born with it. Phillip just keeps it real and even when Tommy Hilfiger tells him he needs to start dressing better, he shows up the next performance in a t-shirt and jeans. He had me at his very first audition of "Thriller" and I thought to myself, "I want that guy to win. I hope he makes it." I've never followed an American Idol contestant this closely EVER. Last year I didn't even watch it. And here he is in the final! Jessica Sanchez has got a set of lungs herself--and at age 16! But I really, really love Phillip.

In this reflective time between the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012, take some time to think about all you've learned and all you want to achieve next year. I can think of no better way to do that than through music. A great friend of mine burned me the most inspirational collection of songs after I graduated high school in 2008. Romp, Roll, & Rumours

The weather here has been beautiful. I wouldn't be upset if we got an Indian summer...not one bit.

Scott asked me what it was that I was wearing. "Is that one of those things that's shorts and a skirt?" I told him that was a skort. I was wearing a romper. "A ROMPer?!"

Nice shades.

When I got home, my stomach started giving me problems. I wasn't feeling so hot. So I decided that I desperately needed to hear "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac on repeat. It seemed to help... I'm fairly certain I have the album Rumours on vinyl. Rumours should be a part of everyone's musical collection. And if it's on vinyl--that's all the better. My grandma was going to get rid of her record player and I told her I would take it. It sort of looks like a table and you slide open the top to reveal the player. I've listened to the Woodstock album on it and it's just sort of magical. The pops and snaps the needle can create are really something.

Anyway, sometimes I just get into a really early 70's folk rock mood and Fleetwood Mac is always on the top of the list for the 70's. Along with Joni Mitchell, Todd Rundgren and such. :)
