Eat, Sleep, Home Depot, Repeat

This weekend has been crazy. I feel like all I've done is eat, sleep, and breathe Home Depot. I started training on Friday, which is when these pics were taken.

On Saturday, I had orientation and went shopping with my mom. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of getting ready for Christmas early this year. Today, I didn't think I had to work but after picking my dad up from the airport for about the sixth time this week (no joke) I checked my schedule. Of course, it said 8-12. I don't remember the last time I intentionally woke up and got ready for the day when it was still dark outside. Bizarre. I was really tired and getting through four hours of training was well...draining.

I have homework to do and of course--work tomorrow. And the horror of horrors, my second Greek mythology test is Wednesday and I am shaking in my boots. Here's to getting through it all and celebrating come Thursday!

A Missouri Girl at Heart

I wore this last night when I went with Dr. Henke to see Tom Sawyer at Actor's Theatre. I met up with her and her house sitter, Pascal, for dinner. She was a lovely girl and unfortunately had to scatter because she was going to model in a local fashion show. She had a great personality so I'm sure she rocked it.

Dr. Henke and I ended up lost on the way to the theatre and the numbers on the street just started getting larger and larger. Oh Lord, we're in the ghetto, I thought. Luckily we made it by the skin of our teeth, but we got separated for the first act. We were finally able to reunite and we moved up to the front row where the effects were fantastic. It was so exciting!

The actress who played Becky Thatcher reminded me so much of Amanda Seyfried. The characters were all just incredibly well-played. All of the boys were perfect for capturing the effervescent spirit of youth. Having read Tom Sawyer in eighth grade, I was happy to see it adapted to the stage (sans dialect). Also, it made me feel a little twinge inside because I guess I really am a Missouri girl at heart (this takes place in a city based off of Mark Twain's experiences in Hannibal, MO).

I can't wait for the holiday season to arrive at Actor's!

Puddles

So... it rained today. At first it was nothing and then right when I was getting to the parking lot after class, it down-poured. My jeans were soaked up to my knees and my shoes were squeaky with wetness. Blergh. At least I had my umbrella.

This is an old pic of the shoes I wore today. They're currently drying on an air vent.

So, before I register for classes I have to fill out a special 'independent study' form for my senior honors thesis. I also have to have my adviser sign and date it. Well, I finally see him today and he says, "You are...?" Oh man. I'm impossible to forget but I'm hard to remember... I let him know that I was his Bloomsbury Group/Virginia Woolf thesis. "I'll send you an email..."

Other than that, I'm just prepping for training at Home Depot on Friday (woot) and my orientation Saturday from 9-1:30. I really hope I like this job. I mean, anything is better than working outside at night.

Also, Dr. Henke (and possibly Leslie) and I are going to grab dinner tonight and go see Tom Sawyer at Actor's Theatre before she leaves again for Oregon. I'm feeling drowsy but I know once I get there, I'll be excited. Here's to rainy days!

Romp, Roll, & Rumours

The weather here has been beautiful. I wouldn't be upset if we got an Indian summer...not one bit.

Scott asked me what it was that I was wearing. "Is that one of those things that's shorts and a skirt?" I told him that was a skort. I was wearing a romper. "A ROMPer?!"

Nice shades.

When I got home, my stomach started giving me problems. I wasn't feeling so hot. So I decided that I desperately needed to hear "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac on repeat. It seemed to help... I'm fairly certain I have the album Rumours on vinyl. Rumours should be a part of everyone's musical collection. And if it's on vinyl--that's all the better. My grandma was going to get rid of her record player and I told her I would take it. It sort of looks like a table and you slide open the top to reveal the player. I've listened to the Woodstock album on it and it's just sort of magical. The pops and snaps the needle can create are really something.

Anyway, sometimes I just get into a really early 70's folk rock mood and Fleetwood Mac is always on the top of the list for the 70's. Along with Joni Mitchell, Todd Rundgren and such. :)

Au Revoir

Today I decided I was going to try to channel Alexa Chung, so I curled my hair (which looked better when I left the house--I promise) and used peachy blush, shimmery brown eye shadow under my eyes, and an exaggerated cat eye.

I have plenty to do but I'd rather just lounge around the house! I'm finally feeling better so I just want to enjoy some down time to myself. It's imperative that I get everything done I need to when I feel motivated because once it goes away... there's no getting it back.

Off to find something to do... Au revoir!

I Love London Winter Street Style

Images courtesy of this blog and the Elle Canada website.

Since London has cold, cold winters and I am always freezing, even in the summertime, I love to take inspiration from the stylish ladies in my favorite city in the world! There's something about London that will always draw my attention... the women are so refined, yet just a bit cheeky, with their gorgeous accents and metropolitan attitudes. Oh to be back in Britain!

It's Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus

Today was absolutely lovely! I woke up without a sore throat or face for the first time in weeks, the weather was gorgeous, and I got to meet up with my favorite professor, Dr. Henke and my friend Leslie.

We got coffee (my first pumpkin latte of the season) and caught up since Dr. Henke is in town until Friday. She's on sabbatical this year in Oregon to finish a book she's writing. She's amazing! Another woman who took one of Dr. Henke's grad classes with Leslie named Sarah came with her baby named William George. She is British so it was a treat to listen to her speak. Oh to be British! William was smiling the whole time and had the biggest blue eyes. I was so happy I got to meet them!

Afterward, Scott and I met up for Qdoba. I got Mexican gumbo and delicious vegetarian tacos. Yum. I laughed at Scott for carrying a comb around with him because he thinks his hair is too long. After acquiring some Halloween Oreos, we went back to my house to watch the best Halloween movie of all time, Hocus Pocus. It was pretty much the perfect night. Scott and I haven't gotten to hang out for almost two months... he's been really busy with his new job, had a lot of schoolwork, and I've of course been sick for a couple of weeks. It was nice to just be around each other again. I love you Scott. :)

Now I'm curling up with Jet. It was such a wonderful day. I feel so inspired after speaking with Dr. Henke. She told me if I decided to go to UofL for my Master's and I get in, that she'd hire me as her "Morton Chair" assistant. It really makes me feel so valued to know that she thinks that much of me and it sort of eases my worries about grad school applications. I've felt like I've been swimming in them lately and to know that everything will be okay--whether I stay here or not--makes me want to push myself even further.

I'm so happy that I took Dr. Henke's Madness, Medicine, and Lit class and had the opportunity to go to London with her this summer. She truly is inspiring and I hope one day I can have a fraction of her success. I'll miss her until she comes back again!
