Windex Necessary

{sweater: kohl's//tank: sam's club//earrings: francesca's collection//jeans: ae//bag: target//moccasins: target ($5!)}

Looks like my mirror's a bit dirty... sorry. I just wanted to snap a couple quick pics after work so I could hurriedly take off my contacts, put on my PJ's, wash my face, and check my email, Facebook, etc. Does anyone else do that? Just drop your bag on the floor and start the bedtime process?

Mom and I went shopping yesterday and almost every single item we purchased was on sale. I'm still giddy with the deals I snagged.

I have a ghastly 8-10 page paper to write tomorrow. The syllabus says to write a 5-page paper if you want a C. So I'm guessing the A-range is somewhere between 8-10. If the man wants to read a ton of pages, he's gonna get a ton of pages! Fool.

Hope your weekends are going well!

Garden State

{dress: modcloth//earrings: gift from dad's india trip//watch: timex//sweater tights: kohl's//rain boots: online}

I love how I pretty much fade into the background wallpaper in these pictures. It reminds me of Zach Braff in Garden State. Oh, how I love that film.

Today was an overall great day despite the rain. I felt better equipped than yesterday. Rain boots, rain slicker, and my Monet 'Poppy Fields' umbrella in tow, I was ready for the mistiness.

I have an early doctor's appointment tomorrow to finally discover what the heck is wrong with my diet (AKA why I had kidney stones). Wish me luck! I'm nervous about getting my blood taken because I pass out pretty much every time no matter how calm I am (or pretend to be) throughout the process.

Wishing you all a happy Friday!

Bloomsbury Scarves

{sweater, top & jeans: ae//watch: walmart//necklace:forever 21//scarf: from a bloomsbury street vendor/gift shop in london}

Today I had to get up early on what should have been my day to sleep in to... get an X-ray and ultrasound! Joyous, I know. I really can't wait for Friday to hear what type of kidney stones I had so I can take dietary precautions against getting them again.

I'm tired but really need to study. But I really just want to eat and watch TV. Where has my academic prowess gone?!

And this hair... I'm not sure about it. Is it a bit too flippy? Because believe me, I didn't do that. My hair was pretty much like doing it's own thang today. I don't know what to do with it...

The Green Light

{tee: Out of Print Clothing//necklace: ny&co//jeans: ae//watch: walmart//bracelet: gift from arizona}

Today was one of those windy, rainy, drop twenty degrees in a matter of hours, make you feel so horrible you just want to go home and cuddle kind of days. Hence my casual wear. I am such a fan of Out of Print's clothing because A. I am a book nerd and love any kind of merchandise advertising said nerd-dom and B. every order donates a book to a child in need!

I feel like I can definitely 'jazz' this shirt up in the future. I'd like to wear it with a funky skirt and cardigan. Today all I could muster of creativity was a necklace which my manager said made me look "artsy." I guess all is fair in fashion when you wake up at 7 AM.

Off to ponder Spanish linguistics, perhaps indulge in some Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and whatever else I can convince myself to do. Stay warm!!

Off to Fiji

{dress: modcloth//scarf & earrings: target//necklace & bracelet: gift from julie//bag: h&m london, covent garden//watch: walmart//tights: hollister//boots: dsw//gloves: vintage via etsy}

Today was one of those days where you get to talk candidly with your best friend over the best food imaginable.

Isn't she gorgeous?!

 We exchanged the presents we didn't get to over break (since I was out of commission). It was basically Chrismukkah in January. The necklace she got me magically matched the dress I had on--so of course I had to wear it immediately!

Now: to study or watch Secret Diary of a Call Girl?

Gulab Jamun

{dress: vintage via etsy//sweater: old navy//watch: walmart//earrings: from mom//gloves: target//
tights: ?// boots: dsw}

I hope you all aren't tired of seeing me in vintage-y floral prints because I can't help it!

Today I met my friend Leslie for Indian food and some catching up. I love me some chicken tikka masala, chala masala, naan, and gulab jamun! And of course, the company made it all the sweeter!

Off to finish some more homework... surprising how productive you can be if you try.

Degas Dancer

{dress: issac mizrahi for target via giftcard//sweater: anne taylor from mom//bag: express//watch: walmart}

There's something about this dress that just makes me smile. It's got the most flattering shape, gorgeous colors and print, flowy skirt, and it makes me feel like a 1960's sex kitten!

I got to go to the Speed Art Museum today for a class assignment and the place never ceases to amaze me. I'm so sad they're closing down for THREE ENTIRE YEARS for renovations. That art museum better look like the damn Louvre when it's finished. That's all I'm sayin.' Luckily, they're having an Impressionist & Post-Impressionist exhibition called Renoir to Chagall: Paris and the Allure of Color February 3-May 5. If you're in the Louisville area, I strongly recommend checking it out. The Impressionist/Post-Impressionists are my favorite and I can't wait to see some of them in person!

Tornado Attire

{sweater & jeans: ae//tank: sam's club (holla)//earrings: target//watch: walmart ($7!)}

I woke up to tornado warnings this morning. In January. Only in Louisville will you have 60 degree temperatures, tornadoes, a cold front, and snow all in one day. (The snow is predicted for tonight).
I finally met my History teacher today and I think he may be slightly insane. We have a 20-page paper due at the end of the course but get this--you only strive for 20 pages if you want a C. What?! So, you mean I need to write a 40 page paper to even be considered for an A? My thesis isn't even going to be that long. And this is a 300-level course.

 Kill me in the face.

What are these ridiculous faces?! Please accept them.

An Education

{sweater: j.crew//infinity scarf: ny&co//gloves: target//earrings: lauren conrad for kohl's online//jeans: ae//bag: h&m london, covent garden//boots: dsw}

So after having seen the outrageously brilliant film An Education with Carey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard, I decided I am in love with Jenny's style and cannot stop thinking about it. So here's my nod to early 1960's fashion.

 I've been having bouts of insomnia lately and it sucks because I really want to sleep! My eyes feel tired and dry but my mind keeps racing and I can't shut it off. To remedy the ickiness I felt I decided to finally watch the movie I knew I would fall in love with from the beginning.

Not only is the fashion to die for--the acting is incredibly real. This has become my new favorite movie! I could watch it on repeat all day long and not get sick of it. I think it might have something to do with the fact that it's British, Carey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard are amazing together, the music and philosophy fill my soul to the brim, and because I see so much of myself in Jenny. I was Jenny, and in fact, I think that I still am. She can't wait for college because she's going to read what she wants, look at paintings, and listen to jazz all day long. And even though she's intelligent, her naivete gets in the way as she gets swept up into the whirlwind of being seduced by an older man who shows her the kind of life she wants to lead--full of music, parties, dancing, glamorous clothing, trips to Paris, bottles of Chanel No. 5 (which is by far one of the most romantic gifts a man can ever give a woman, in my opinion!), eating in fancy restaurants and a feeling that she finally belongs. And who wouldn't be caught up in all of that?

A few of my favorite quotes:
  • If you never do anything, you never become anyone.
  • It's not enough to educate us anymore Ms. Walters. You've got to tell us why you're doing it.
  • The life I want, there is no shortcut.
  • [On sex] It's funny though, isn't it? All that poetry and all those songs, about something that lasts no time at all.
 I can't even begin to go on about how many things this movie did right and how much I love it! But I will cease and go wrap myself in my fictional 1960's world, donning floral shift dresses, hot pink lipstick, and listening to the soundtrack.
